GCSE composition part 2: exploiting texture, instrumentation, timbre and dynamics Playwrights/Practitioners Reported actionThe first part of this resource (in August 2014) looked at melodies, phrase structure, simple chord progressions and harmonic rhythm. With the aid of this, students should be able to compose a 16 or 32 bar melody with a simple chordal accompaniment. This second part explores some of the many ways in which an idea like this can be enhanced by the use of instrumentation, texture, timbre and dynamics.
