After living through many hot, dry summers it somehow seems like magic that theres such colorful life during spring. The first to bloom is usually the Castilleja or paintbrush flower. Its bright red flowers stand out from the sandstone, sage bush and rabbit brush fields. Though Ive only seen the red paintbrush in the desert other places have orange, yellow and even purple
