I have seen them used in barracks and some photos indicating they made it closer to the front line also

The ties on the front are discolored / faded

The bottom says it is black ink but it clearly looks like its been used for blue or purple ink. Small size. The lid says it is non toxic and suitable for meat inspectors. The ink pad is mostly dried up. OK condition outside, the inside is a bit rusty and gross.
