Paine's Creek Cross Roads - 2nd National Flag Earl Van Dorn Patrick's DayFlag design is based on a surviving 2nd National Pattern Flag captured on April 5, 1865 at Paine's Creek Cross Roads, Virginia. The flag of this pattern is typical of that of the Trans Mississippi Department, but several know inverted color 2nd Nationals are tributes to late war Eastern units (most famously the garrison flag of Fort Fisher).
