The firm originally began manufacturing as Soho Pottery but was renamed Simpsons Pottery Ltd in 1944, owned by brothers Samuel and Thomas Simpson. In 1971 the firm was purchased by the Pfaltzgraff company of York, USA, but in 2004 the Simpsons Pottery was closed permanently by Pfaltzgraff when their tableware
